Dionis participated on a community project from New Jersey
Health Initiative (NJHI) and the name of the project is Next Generation
Leaders. This project consists of recruiting youth that would like to see a
change in their community and would like to participate in the creation of a
project or event that is going to impact and improve the community health
short-term and long-term. This is an ongoing project based in multiple cities
of New Jersey including Elizabeth the city where Dionis live. This event took
place to support the youth leaders of Elizabeth.
Therefore, being part of this community project and engaged with
youths that are going to be future leaders in their career path inspired
Dionis. His task that day was
to make the day not only interesting but fun. He made them work in teams and
collaborate with each other so that whatever project they develop and end up
doing in the future is relevant to the community and fun to them by getting
along with their peers. That day was full of excitement and researchers from
Rutgers Camden also participated by helping the youth to come up with ideas
that were measurable, to make the City of Elizabeth healthier.
The speaker Mr. Richard
Lawton spoke in class about his background and new role as the Executive
Director of NJ Sustainable Business Council. He explained how 26 individuals
held as much health as the rest of the world’s poorest population of 3.8 billion
people. Moreover, he mentioned how sustainability is the present and future
solution by improving the quality of human life. Topics such as thinking in
systems, linear and circular economy were explained to better understand how
sustainable business should work. Also, the most important fact that I got from
the presentation was that places to intervene in a system are goals, paradigms,
self-organization and rules. This last teaching could be utilized in any system
and is self-explanatory. Great speech!
